Termite radar inspection, step by step.
Termites moving through wood create tiny, continuous motion. A Termatrac scan sends low-energy microwaves through the surface of a wall, door frame, or floor and reads that motion back, so the technician can tell whether something is active behind it.
Your technician starts with a visual inspection, inside and out, for mud tubes, frass, damaged wood, and conditions termites favor. Then they scan the areas that deserve a closer look (walls near plumbing, baseboards, window and door frames, and flooring) and mark where activity is detected.

Subterranean termites work inside the wood of a home, behind drywall, trim, and flooring, and the damage is often out of sight until it’s advanced. The traditional way to confirm what’s back there is to drill test holes or pull off baseboards, which leaves repairs whether or not termites turn up.

What is a Termatrac® termite inspection?
A Termatrac® inspection is a termite inspection that adds radar to a licensed technician's visual check. The radar sends low-energy microwaves through wall, floor, and ceiling surfaces and is designed to detect the movement of live termites behind them. That lets us look for hidden activity in places a visual inspection can't reach without opening the structure.
Does a Termatrac® inspection require drilling or opening walls?
No. Radar reads through common interior surfaces such as drywall, trim, and flooring, so nothing is drilled, cut, or removed to look inside. That matters most in finished homes, where opening a wall to check for termites means repair work afterward whether or not termites are found.
Can Termatrac® radar find termites inside walls?
It is designed to detect termite movement inside walls, floors, and ceilings, which is where subterranean termites often work unseen. Radar picks up activity that is happening at the time of the scan, so it is used alongside a visual inspection for mud tubes, frass, and damage rather than in place of one. Your technician explains what the scan did and didn't show.
Is a Termatrac® inspection the same as a WDO inspection for a home sale?
No. A WDO (wood-destroying organism) inspection produces the Florida form FDACS-13645 that lenders and closings typically require. A Termatrac® inspection is a more detailed look for live activity inside walls and floors, and buyers or sellers often want both. When should I book a termite radar inspection?
Book one when you suspect termites but can't see them, before buying or selling a home, after a termite treatment to check previously active areas, or when you find mud tubes, frass, or swarmers. In Northeast Florida, spring swarm season is when many homeowners first notice signs.
